You know those movies that always start out with “loosely based on…”? Well, in today’s strip, the guys in the last panel is “loosely based on” one of my friends and former co-worker, Kevin Denny.

The reason why I say it is “loosely based on” him is because it’s not really a true caricature of Kevin. I was just thinking about Kevin while I was sketching this strip out and knew I needed another person in that third panel. Usually, if I am putting one of my friends in the strip, I will look at some reference photos or try to come close to drawing almost a simplified caricature. Heck, it’s almost like a caricature of a caricature, if that makes sense.

But that wasn’t the case here. I was, basically, just drawing Kevin from memory in a more simplified cartoon form. I probably have done that a lot seeing as there tends to be so many random characters that just seem to pop up out of the blue in Capes & Babes. Heck, you – yes, the one reading this blog post – have probably  been in a Capes & Babes strip and didn’t even know it.  🙂

Also, I have to give Mike Porter a big shout out too for planting this suggestion in my Facebook wall where I originally posted the Jeff Foxworthy-inspired comic book geek version of his Redneck act. Mike owns Little Fish Comics located in Fredericksburg, Virginia and it’s also where I spend every Free Comic Book Day drawing various things for people. I will be there again this year so if you’re in the Fredericksburg area the first Saturday of May, stop by his store. I know he’d appreciate it!
