Okay, so I’ve been reading a lot of articles about musical groups and how they cultivate their tribes (KISS Army, parrotheads, Deadheads, etc.). I also know a great number of web cartoonists who are already doing this. For example, you have Dave Kellett’s Sheldonistas as well as Brad Guigar’s Henchmen.
Well, my idea here is that since I always thought it would be the coolest thing in the world to work in a comic book store, I’m hoping many of you feel the same way. So, I want to start out by offering some of you who have been extremely enthusiastic and supportive of Capes & Babes these first couple of years the first shot at being a Capes & Babes employee. A Capes & Babes employee would have an ID badge that they can wear to various conventions & will show your support for the strip. It’ll have your name, how long you’ve been an employee (a fan) of the store and what your comic book expertise might be – think of it sort of like your own Avengers member car but one you can wear around your neck.
But first, we need a better name for ourselves than just “Capes & Babes Employee”. Let’s have a contest… add some of your suggestions to the comments section and the winner will get an original 9×12″ full color commission of any character they want.
What do you say, people? Like Pink might say, LET’S GET THIS PARTY STARTED!!!
And without further ado, I would like to introduce the very first honorary Capes & Babes employee… John Nacinovich! You can find out more about John by following him on Twitter at @LittleJohn312!

Additional Update…
****************************************************************
Okay gang, now that I’m back from Baltimore, I had plenty of time to let this idea brew in my head. I even had some additional names as well such as “The Wednesday Warriors” – but for some reason, that seems familiar too me so I’ve been reluctant to go with that as well. But the more I kept thinking about it, the more “Wolf Pack” just seems to really be appealing to me.
As I told a few of you during Baltimore, one of the reasons I like “Wolf Pack” is because there’s no limit to how big it can grow. With the idea of “store employees”, after a while, that’s gonna be one huge, crowded store, right?
But I didn’t quite like “Wolf Pack” alone at first because there was no tie to the store… there was no way to connect the two. Until now. How do you take a great name like “Wolf Pack” and a very cool concept and tie the two together? As it turns out, it’s actually pretty easy – and could be potantially very cool as well.
Instead of making the Tribe be employees of the store, we’re gonna make “The Wolf Pack be the name of the Comic Book Reading Club Roy decides to form for the store. It will sort of be like a book reading club… only instead of discussing Jane Austen books, the subject is anything and everything comic book related!
With this in mind, the tribe can grow and shrink at will – book clubs can be as big as you want or as small as you want each week.
Now, the hard part is trying to figure out how to make this “club” truly SPECIAL. I’m looking into possibly getting really nice plastic ID badges – sort of like rock concert back tage passes people wear around their neck… I’d hand those out to everyone here but not sure what or how I can entice others to become a member of the Wolf Pack… maybe a small club membership fee where they get some free stuff (artwork, sketches, etc)… That’s the part I have to really think about and work out – plus I need to find a very affordable POD printer that can do…
Again, there’s a ton of stuff I still have to formalize and put together but that’s what I’m thinking so far.
What do you guys think of that?
