If you’re reading this strip and wondering if either the “Randy Lugar” name sounds vaguely familiar OR if “Randy” looks vaguely familiar, that’s because “Randy” is really Brad Guigar.

Again, these strips were written and drawn back in 2008 – right at the time that the Webcomic Weekly guys were reallybeginning to break out – including Brad.

I’ve mentioned many times in the past that Brad (and Danielle Corsetto) were pretty instrumental in convincing me to launch Capes & Babes. But Brad was probably even more so in the sense that he had seen a bunch of my “CMX Suite” strips I was doing at the time for Community MX and offered the occasional nugget of advice via e-mail here and there. So, when it came time to do a story arch about Marc and Roy going to Heroes Con, I wanted to pay my respects to Brad by putting him in the strip – sort of.

I wasn’t sure how comfortable he’d be being a guest star in Capes & Babes so I decided to give him an alias – seems fitting if you’re doing a comic strip about super heroes and villains, right? At first, I wasn’t quite sure what his alias was going to be but after a lot of brainstorming, I came up with “Randy Lugar”. And, once I had that alias, doping some kind of joke about a Lugar gun just fell in to place.

Unfortunately, given the circumstances of everything that has happened last week, one might say this is extremely bad taste and bad timing to run a humorous strip with gun violence as the punch line. Again, there’s not much I can do about that. These strips were created four years ago – it just happens that this one is running today.

I don’t want to make this a huge soap box post but I will say that last week was a huge tragedy on an epic scale. In Capes & Babes, all of the violence I depict is cartoon violence – heck, that’s why I.R. Hungr
