When people come to conventions that I attend and they look through my portfolio book and see all the full color marker illustrations I have done, many times when they are finished flipping the last page, they can’t help but ask why I don’t do Capes & Babes in full color.

Well, tonight is a very prime example of why I don’t do Capes & Babes in full color. Had this strip been in its customary black & white/greyscale format, I would have had it posted close to 30-40 minutes earlier. But instead, I got bogged down with shading the NEW Blue Beetle and quickly lost track of time.

I was planning on writing a detailed post about Intervention Con but that will have to wait for the weekend.

But before I leave for the night, I just wanted to say that the last panel is in no way making fun of Dan Savage’s VERY IMPORTANT message to young people out there who might be struggling with their sexuality or simply struggling to fit in one way or another. I chose that punchline due to many of the random reactions I have read so far regarding the new Ultimate Spider-man. If Dan Savage’s message is one of hope – which I think it is – in this particular case, I hope it’s also a message that it’s perfectly okay that the Ultimate Spider-man isn’t Peter Parker anymore but rather a mixed minority taking up Peter’s mantle.

If you let a FICTIONAL character’s race affect your view of the REAL world, then maybe it won’t get better after all.

And that, ultimately, is very sad.
