Continuing the crazy tales of Roy at Intervention Con… this time, at the Cosplay Burlesque show.

And now, for something I mentioned in a previous post… an idea I got during Intervention Con. I want to start making my Wednesday Blog post something related to werewolves… movies, art, video… you name it. Actually, the appropriate term should be: “You find it, I’ll post it”. So, if you have some crazy, weird or interesting things dealing with werewolves, send them to me via e-mail, Twitter or Facebook and I’ll post them here every Wednesday – or I’ll write something about them every Wednesday too.

So, without further ado, I give you…

Werewolf Wednesday!

Today, I’m going to be rating some of my favorite werewolf movies and TV shows. But before we begin, I will say upfront that you won’t find any of the Twilight series here or True Blood for that matter. As much as I love True Blood, I am very disappointed that HBO couldn’t do SOMETHING with the werewolves. In my book, if a movie or TV show resorts to a CGI or a real wolf, they are disregarded. A werewolf is a half-man, half creature and should be depicted as such. So, with that laid out, here are my favorite Werewolf movies:

1) An American Werewolf in London
There were so many original things about this movie that I don;t know where to begin. But any movie that has a werewolf transformation inside a porn theater HAS to be tops in my book!

2) Teen Wolf
Yeah, it’s a comedy but it had a lot of heart too. It’s almost sad now to watch the scene in which Michael J. Fox is running through the high school hallway slipping and sliding his way to the boy’s bathroom. Michael was such a gifted physical actor when he was younger and before his diagnosis.

3) Wolf
Classic scene of Jack peeing all over the bathroom floor as he is “marking his territory”.

4) The Wolf Man (the original)
C’mon… when it comes to classic horror monsters, Lon Cheney was THE MAN!

5) The Wolf Man (2010)
Not many people went to go see this version but it was cool watching Del Toro as a Half-man/Half Wolf prowl the London rooftops. That pretty much made the movie for me.

6) Wolfen
It has been some years since I first saw this movie while working at a video rental store. I’m gonna have to pick it up and watch it again.

7) The Howling
I don’t think you can have a werewolf movie list without including this movie somewhere on your list.

8 ) Silver Bullet
Again, another sad one to watch as you see all the potential stardom in Corey Haim. Such a young, gifted child actor… and the chase scene with him in his rocket fueled wheelchair is pretty intense for a PG movie.

9) Cat People
Another cool little werewolf – or is it werecat? – movie that a lot of people tend to forget about. Again, this was another one I discovered while working in a video store.

10) I was a Teenage Werewolf
I know… I know… How could something so cheesy like this be included on my list? Well, because this was one of the first werewolf movies I was ever exposed to. I think I saw it on a late night creature feature one weekend. If memory serves, it was a Saturday night creature hour hosted by Washington DC’s “Captain 20” – dressed as a Dracula knock-off. I can’t remember what his nickname was for that creature feature hour but he was one of the many that inspired the likes of Elvira and so on.

Some honorable mentions:
Underworld – I liked all of the Underworld movies but to me, except for the last one, they were more Vampire movies than werewolf movies.

Micheal Jackson’s werewolf in “Thriller”. Everyone remembers the zombie dance but people forget he was a pretty cool looking werewolf in that same video. Shame the Wolf never danced.

Van Helsing – again though, the werewolves were the finale while the main part of the movie focused on vampires (again).

Lady Hawke – I loved Lady Hawke for the romantic twist to the story but can’t put it on my list because 1) Rutger Hauer turns into a REAL wolf and 2) Mathew Broderick (as much as I like him as an actor) was horribly miscast in this movie. So, no wolf for you!

Agree? Disagree? What’s YOUR werewolf list? And remember, start sending me those werewolf links, alright?
