Man… I can honestly say… when I started on this little adventure way back in the fall of 2007, I had NO IDEA if I would ever make it to 100 strips – much less 1,000!

When I was in college, I did a few strips that never seemed to get past more than 20. Mostly that was due to the craziness of college life, art classes and I was only 19 at the time. Plus, it was just plain nerve wracking trying to come up with new, FUNNY ideas ONCE A WEEK.

So, when I decided to start Capes & Babes, yeah, I was a whole lot older but the nervousness was still there because I KNEW the work that was going to have to go into this even if I steadily maintained a three strip a week schedule. And, for the most part, I have. The only times when I haven’t been able to post a new strip is when my convention schedule started to really take off or I had some baseball games – either coaching or playing – that interfered with that. Or, on occasion, real life reared its ugly head. But for a very large percentage of that time, I maintained that three a week schedule.

And so here I am at 1,000 strips.

It’s going to take some time to process this because, truly, I really wasn’t sure if I would ever make it up to the peak of this mountain. I’m going to probably write more about this in the next couple of days but for now, I thought I’d give you guys something a little special.

All the strips this week are interconnected. So, if you have a large enough monitor, you can either view or download the entire single piece that is displayed below. I warn you though, it is 2200 pixels wide. If I could, I would somehow make a special poster out of it but that poster would, literally, be something ridiculous like 25×4″ or something. I’m going to print it out on 11×17″ paper and see what it looks like. I have a feeling those characters aren’t going to be very tall at all. But we’ll see.

In the mean time, here are all three strips put together (click the image to see the bigger version):
