You know what’s almost worse than not having an idea for the strip? Not having a subject matter truly worthy to talk about. Really, the only thing I’ve got tonight is the whole mini controversy about whether Steven StrasburgĀ should be in the MLB All-Star game.
What are your opinions on that? The kid has been extremely impressive since being called up to the Nationals but he’s pitched in less than 10 games. Is that enough to warrant an All-Star appearance? Should he take the place of a guy who has played more games but had slightly less stellar stats? Has Strasburg done enough to “earn” his all-star credentials yet?
Personally, I kind of side with Charlie Manuel on this one… I say let Steven get more comfortable in the bigs instead of trying to make him the savior of the Nats AND the National League. Even if he got in the game, he’d probably only pitch one inning – if that.
Of course, there’s no guarantee even if he made the roster (which is too late for him to do so now unless there’s a last minute injury), that he would actually even SEE any playing time. I remember when Mike Musina was still pitching for the Orioles and never got to pitch in the all-star game that was held at Camden Yards. I’m still not sure why Cito Gaston didn’t allow Mike to pitch in his home stadium for that game…
So, what are YOUR thoughts on the upcoming MLB all-star game? Are you a National or American League fan? Do you like the World Series home field advantage being at stake for this game? Do you like that EVERY team has to have a representative – even if there’s no one really worthy on a last place team sometimes?
