What???
You think there should be someone else BESIDES Roy that should also get popped with a plunger arrow???

Okay, with all of that being said, when I was a wee little laddie, I grew up reading old Avengers comics so if I REALLY had to pick a favorite bow slinger, it would be Hawkeye, hands down. But later on, as I grew older, I was exposed to Neal Adam’s Green Arrow / Green Lantern series and really dug Oliver Queen in that as well.
But THEN… flash forward to my high school/college years and not only does Hawkeye have a terrific mini-series of his own which spawned his new and current costume but Mockingbrid becomes a part of his history too!
And not too much after that, Mike Grell does his own fantastic take on the Green Arrow slinger in a prestige format that had some absolutely mind-blowing colored pencil work in it.
So, who is the better bow and arrow slinger?
I’m gonna let YOU guys fight that out. I like both of them!

This is an updated Blog post from yesterday…
(My original post from yesterday is still below and in italics)
As you all know now, the Cowboys won the game last night on Sunday Night Football and are guaranteed a playoff spot. Here’s a picture of the opening kickoff:
Dallas vs. Redskins opening kickoff
Temperatures last night was in the 30 degree range but I was pretty warm throughout the night – thanks to the full body hunting suit I was wearing in that short snowstorm video I filmed last weekend.
I always intended for this strip to be in full-color from the start but I was also working on a last minute Christmas gift caricature for my best friend Jeff. He was also the one who had tickets to the game (and is also a long time Redskins fan). Now how a Redskin and Cowboy fan wound up being best friends is a very LONG story but we’ve been best friends since I was 14 years old (Jeff’s 2 years younger than I am).
Anyway, we agreed to meet at 4:30pm to go to the game and as I was working on today’s strip yesterday, I quickly realized I wasn’t going to be able to get it fully colored by 4:00pm – that gave me enough travel time to meet him at our designated spot by 4:30pm. But being a long time newspaper production grunt years ago, I knew it was better to get SOMETHING up rather than have NOTHING up. So I quickly finished the black & white version and cleaned it up as much as possible and posted it online. Again, I would rather have SOMETHING up than miss a deadline. Guess that’s just the graphic designer in me.
In any case, I hope you enjoy seeing the colored version.

My original blog post from yesterday (Sunday):
This is a temporary black & white version. The full color version will be up tomorrow.
I didn’t have time to complete the full color version as I am about to leave the house to go to the Redskins – Dallas game with my best friend. Last time I went to a Redskin-Dallas game, Dexter Manly knocked out Danny White.
Here’s hoping the results might be just a TAD bit different.

Merry Christmas everyone!
And for those of you that are still online this Christmas Eve, below is an audio file of Red Skelton’s “The Littlest Christmas Tree”. It was on a Christmas album my mother used to play for my brother and I every Christmas. Here it is for you (but you do need Quicktime in order to play it though):
Here is the .MOV version of the Littlest Christmas Tree, by Red Skelton:

If anyone knows an easy way to convert a .MOV audio file into an MP3, please let me know!

And now you know why it’s generally a bad idea to give a werewolf a bottle of NAIR for Christmas…
Used to be, you’d always see a ton of NAIR commercials featuring the jingle “Who wears short-shorts?”. But I haven’t seen those commercials in YEARS. Does NAIR even exist as a product any more???
Still listening to the “Purple Rain” soundtrack I bought off of iTunes over the weekend…

The 2009 Christmas Wish – Part one
December 21st, 2009 | by ChrisMy daughter and I are going to attempt to go see the 12:30 showing of Avatar today. Once I get back, I’ll let you know what we thought of it.
I’ll have some Blog stuff posted later…
Here’s a little something I did on Saturday:
-Chris
I can’t take absolute, 100% credit for the punchline for today’s strip. That was greatly inspired by a guest strip Joe Combs did for me back in November, 2008. You can see his strip here. Joe does a fantastic strip of his own called Business Casual. You should check it out. I know I do every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
And for all you young whipper snappers out there that don’t get the reference to Roy’s pose, go to Wikipedia or Google and search for “Black gloves during the Olympics” or you can just click here.
Also, for tonight, I did something a little spontaneous since Rob, Matt and I weren’t able to record our Lightbox – Illuminating Webcomics podcast this week. I made a LiveStream video! This was mostly a test as I could not, for the life of me, get my iMac built in video cam to work with UStream at all! If anyone has any suggestions on how to do that, please e-mail me, won;t you? My e-mail is capesnbabes [at] gmail.com.
If everything worked fine, here’s the video I recorded just a little while ago:
What to get your artist friends for Christmas…
Hope that works!

Hmmm… not really much to say for this post except that I would like you all to know that I AM slowly working on a site re-design. I wireframed the home page design to a point where I’m pretty happy with the structure.
For those unfamiliar, a wireframe in web design can be many things but basically, it its purest form, it’s a simplistic design comp to demonstrate how a particular web site or web site section functions. In a case with WordPress and ComicPress, the functionality is already worked out for you but you still need to figure out the design structure.
Some people like to go all out and design an entire site in Photoshop without any planning stages. I am sometimes like that depending on the project. But for the re-designed Capes & Babes site, I kept running into a brick wall – a designer’s block, if you will. Si, instead of getting bogged down in fancy color schemes, I decided maybe a wireframe would be the best way to go.
Sure enough, that was the problem. Once I created a blank canvass in Fireworks and starting crafting my curved boxes, the design process start to come along MUCH better than anything I previously attempted.
Hopefully, that will stay the same once I start adding colors, textures and backgrounds to the design.

This month has been really great in terms of producing art. Thus far, since the beginning of the month, I have purchases of seven artist editions of the book and a commission for a full color, 11×17″ caricature commission.
The good news is that this has been one of the busiest Decembers I have ever had in terms of producing original art. The bad news is that producing so much custom art has really hampered my ability to do any kind of Christmas shopping yet. So I’m hoping to get to that sometime this week.
The other bad news is that, because all of these pieces are for Christmas gifts, I can’t show any images of the cartoons and caricature work I’ve completed as that could potentially spoil Christmas for some folks. And I just don’t want to do that.
But after Christmas, I’ll post the art!

So tonight, Matt Stout and I conducted our first Lightbox – Illuminating Webcomics podcast without our buddy-in-arms, Rob. For the most part, I think it went well. Actually, EVERYTHING went well. Last night was the difficult part – at least for me as I had to get my new headphone/mic to properly work on my Mac AND with Skype… I also had to figure out how to work with Garageband as I had only previously opening that program up a couple of times.
But low and behold, I got everything to work – which is pretty amazing since I’m not nearly as adapt with audio files/formats as I am with graphic files/formats.
In any case, tonight, we only recorded for about an hour but most of that hour was dedicated to Facebook, Facebook Fan Pages and how you can use Facebook (and Facebook Fan pages) to help promote your strip. We talked about special Facebook offers, trivia quizes for your fans and making sure you keep adding content to your fan page.
Later one, we briefly discussed our studio set-up and some of out working methods.
All in all, a very fun show! Check us out on iTunes if you haven’t already!
