Acid Reflex Syndrome
This is one of those situations where the script for the strip is completed and, during the drawing or inking process, a “new” idea for a better punchline hits you like a ton of bricks. My wife and brother sometimes suffer from Acid Reflex Syndrome and for whatever reason, that hit me as I was drawing “Al”.
So, I decided to scrap my original joke and go with the Acid Reflex angle. I just thought it made a lot more sense. Of course, when you have acid for blood, doesn’t it make all the sense in the world that you would also suffer from Acid Reflex syndrome? It does to me.

Oooops. Yeah, it IS Acid ReFLUX… don’t know why I was thinking “reflex”. Oh wait. Now I do. It seems I was listening to Duran-Duran while I was doing that last panel… “The R-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-rflex….”.
